After the failed partnership one of the investors, the Cavalier Ugo Stella, moved the company and named it Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili or ALFA. The first ALFA logo was designed in 1910 by Romeo Cattaneo and has an interesting history. Mr. Cattaneo once had a tram in Piazza Castello in Milan and was inspired by the flag with the red cross symbol of the city of Milan and the coat of arms of the noble house of Visconti (the symbol is characterized by an Alfa Romeo with a man between the mouth). The words ALFA and MILANO were written around the two symbols separated by two nodes of the Savoy dynasty, in honor of the kingdom of Italy. In 1916 the Neapolitan businessman Nicola Romeo bought the company and converted it into a company of ammunition and machinery due to the First World War. In 1918, the badge was redesigned by Giuseppe Merosi to include the words ALFA ROMEO. After the war, the company returned to making cars.
