BMW, Audi and Mercedes against Uber: shoot the race for the acquisition of Here.

According to the news reported by Forbes, BMW, Mercedes and Audi have joined forces and are preparing a formal offer to acquire the service of maps Nokia Here. The division of the Finnish company, according to estimates by the Wall Street Journal, could be worth more than two billion dollars. The goal of the acquisition is to support a project of car you drive themselves, thanks to one of the most accurate mapping services in the world. A move that should help counter the threat of the entry of Google in the field. The fear of the automakers, in fact, is that the American company would release an open-source operating system for cars that drive themselves, following the same strategy used by Android.

And there's more, because according to the New York Times, also Uber submitted an offer of three billion dollars for Here, proposal made possible by the recent funding by $ 5.9 billion and the positive numbers of its budget. Currently, Uber uses Google Maps technology, but Here enable the company to have their own software, which would also help in terms of logistics divisions as UberFresh, specializing in the delivery of food.

From a financial standpoint, Here it is completely independent and closed last year with a turnover of 1.1 billion dollars, with six thousand employees in 200 offices that, for the future, are aimed at creating maps 3D.
